Dictionary

The essential lexicographical tool for Ethiopic is still the ‘Lexicon linguae aethiopicae’ by A. Dillmann (1865), that is the only providing literary references, phraseology and insights into stylistic and linguistic uses. It is the major and indispensable tool for the scientific study of the Ethiopian textual heritage. The digitally encoded version of the Lexicon has formed the basis for the project dictionary application online.

The wordlist is being further enhaced by the lemmata from the ‘Comparative Dictionary of Ge‘ez’ by W. Leslau (1987) and those encountered in recently edited texts.
